Introducing the Talent Team: Veronica Nurminen

Many of you have probably already had time to get to know Biohansa's Talent Team project, which started in the spring. We wanted to gather a diverse team to represent Biohansa in competitions in their own discipline and in their own region, and possibly also in international competitions depending on their level. In the end, we received close to 70 applications from various riders, harness riders, dressage riders and trotting enthusiasts. Choosing team members from such a large number was very challenging. There were many great candidates! Four representatives were selected from the applicants to join Biohansa's Talent Team . Each of them is skilled in their sport and actively competes successfully. The Talent Team's goal is to support these team members and at the same time make Biohansa's products known through practice. We will introduce all the team members on our blog, in this article it is the turn of show jumper Veronica Nurminen . Show jumping is the most popular sport Like many other equestrian sports, show jumping also originated with cavalry. It has been an Olympic sport since 1900. In show jumping, the competition is to complete a course as quickly as possible, overcoming the obstacles without mistakes. The obstacles are jumped in the order according to the course drawing, in the skill assessment class and the performance assessment class for young horses, the superiority is decided by the judges' evaluation. The course can be built indoors or outdoors on a sand or grass-based field. The heights of the classes vary from the boom classes and between 60-160 cm. Four points are awarded for dropping an obstacle. If a horse refuses to jump an obstacle, four points are awarded the first time; the second time, the rider's performance is disqualified. Exceeding the maximum time specified for the course results in one point for every four seconds that have started on the basic course, and one point for every second that has started on the retake. There are different methods of judging, but they mainly determine the form of a possible retake. In Europe, the top countries in show jumping have been Germany, the Netherlands, Great Britain, Switzerland and, most recently, our neighboring country Sweden, which has achieved strong results at the World Championships and the Olympics. The horses competing in the GP classes are the result of quality breeding and professional training - not to mention certain riders who remain at the top even with new horses. Towards this year's HIHS Veronica Nurminen, 14, who lives in Asikkala, competes in show jumping with four different horses. Veronica has trained and competed with her 17-year-old mare, Foriola-Fortunate, for three years. In addition to Foriola, Veronica has a newer acquaintance, the 6-year-old mare Travenort's Ida-Maria, and the ponies Kansas II and Thunderheart, with whom she has planned to compete in the national pony cup. Veronica started competing at the age of 6. The emphasis in competitions has been on show jumping and eventing, where she has competed in the 115 cm classes and in the field at the 90 cm level. This past season, Veronica's goals were the Finnish Junior Show Jumping Championships and the Finnish Children's Show Jumping Championships. - Of course, I also want to develop as a rider and improve my cooperation with the horse, she adds. Now the outdoor season has come to an end and although there hasn't been much success in the championships this year, Veronica earned a place in the final of the Helsinki International Horse Show Amateur Tour at the Ypäjä September competitions! So, the focus has been turned towards the indoor season and you can follow Veronica's preparations for HIHS via her Instagram account . There you can also find coaching news.
