The team's spring preparations are starting to get underway.

Spring is undoubtedly the best time of the year. The sun is already starting to warm up and the snow is melting quickly. What's even more annoying is all the cleaning items that are revealed under the snow, such as loose hay that has flown from wheelbarrows or piles of manure left in the stables. The electric wires in the stables may need to be replaced and the posts in the pastures may be leaning after the winter. Then it's best to take a rake and a hoe with you and start preparing the stable for spring!

In the spring, when the outdoor fields are in the thawing phase, the view is miserable and often the situation resembles more of an ice skating rink than a riding arena for a moment. When the sand comes out, you have to wait a while for the base to dry. If you are planning to renovate or repair the outdoor field, we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the German Bacher ArenaGrip product. This is a PVC mat that is installed on the bottom of the field. The result is excellent grip, as the mats are non-slip and the drainage system allows excess water to drain away.

Dry yards, healthy feet

PVC mats can also be used in the design of paddock floors. This way, muddy spots can be avoided and the horse can walk outside in a drier area. PVC mats are also not affected by winter or frost. There has been a lot of snow this past winter, so when the snow starts to melt, even careful paddock cleaning can reveal new things to shovel. If paddock floors become so-called slushy in spring and autumn, the reason may be that the floor materials do not allow water to pass through or, alternatively, the floor has become too compacted.

A damp, manure-filled stable is harmful to the horse's health and also makes the work of the stable worker more difficult. Constant moisture, especially the horses' legs, exposes them to many unpleasant diseases, such as ringworm or ringworm. In addition, sand can accumulate in the intestines along with the hay, which in turn is a risk for many stomach problems. The floor of the stable should therefore remain dry all year round and withstand the weight of the horse.

Fix the posts

If the posts in the orchards are crooked and the pasture sticks have mysteriously disappeared, it is certainly a good idea to consider farm renovations and start repairing the pasture fences. From Biohansa you can get fence posts made of A-grade round durable wood . Erection is also easy and quick, as the posts are already sharpened. FCS 100% and a 15-year warranty! The posts are available in different diameters and heights, so even the worst houdini should stay inside the fences.

When it comes to enclosures, common sense is the best approach. It goes without saying that there should be no corners that are too tight. When horses sometimes play fast, there should be no situation where someone gets “trapped” in a corner and cannot escape the situation. The fencing material should also not be harmful to the horse. For example, barbed wire fences are not allowed by law. The easiest way to do this is to check enclosures regularly and repair them immediately if something is found. The idea behind enclosures and enclosures is to keep animals safe and prevent them from escaping.

Protects in summer and winter

When it comes to summer grazing, there should be some kind of weather protection. The shelter does not have to be an actual building, but a wooded area, for example, is suitable as shelter. However, all horses should be able to fit in it. Although a pasture shelter is not a very expensive purchase, it is a recommended solution, especially if the pasture is completely open. Summers are hot and full of insects, not to mention thunderstorms. In winter, horses that are housed outdoors should have a built shelter, such as a yard shed, and the whole group should be able to rest there at the same time.

As mentioned earlier in our blog, there are differences in bedding and how to choose it. A different type of bedding can work in a yard than in an indoor pen. For example, mattress bedding is a good option when conditions are right.
