Benefits of hemp bedding

Hemp bedding is specifically intended for horses, cows, poultry, chicks and rodents.
• Absorbency 400–500% of its own weight
• Rapid decomposition, decomposes in approximately 6–8 weeks
• Almost dust-free, free of bacteria
• More fire-safe than other bedding, does not catch fire!
• Improved thermal insulation, warm and comfortable
• Easy to use, the litter can be spread with most spreading equipment
• The best solution for hooves

How to use hemp bedding?

  • Empty the pen and spread approximately 4 bales of hemp straw over a 9 m² pen (on average 1 bale per 2 m²).
  • Remove manure daily and level the surface with a rake from the outside in. Do not turn the bedding over! The goal is to create a comfortable bedding layer for the horses.
  • Remove manure daily and once a week, add one bale of hemp bedding to the damp areas. It is a good idea to spread a new bale over the area where you have removed the damp bedding.
  • Rake the top layer regularly from the outside inwards.
  • After about 10–12 weeks, empty the pen again and fill it with fresh hemp bedding.
  • Store hemp bales indoors, protected from rain and sunlight.

How will the workload be reduced?

  1. Thorough cleaning is only done 4 times a year.
  2. Manure piles are decreasing – they will be replaced by compost piles, which are only 1/5 of the former straw-litter manure piles.
  3. Time savings in cleaning pens – compared to straw bedding, weekly cleaning time is reduced by half an hour or an hour per pen.

Frequently asked questions

Can hemp bedding cause gas?
In principle, all materials used for bedding can cause digestive problems if eaten in excess. The most important thing is to take good care of the stable and the feed. Make sure that the horses always have enough food available and provide them with plenty of exercise opportunities so that they do not get bored in the stable.

How is it best to use it?
Hemp bedding can be used in the same way as flax, straw or wood chip bedding. This means removing manure daily and removing damp areas once a week. If necessary, add more bedding. Use a rake with dense spikes if possible to avoid wasting good material.

Hemp bedding is available in the following packages:

• +/- 20 kg packaging
• Weight of 1 pallet = 21 packages (+/- 420 kg) = 4.5 cubic meters
• The trailer can hold 32 pallets, 672 packages, with a total weight of 13.440 tons
