Wood fibre for use with dry bedding

Soft | Low-dust | Use with other bedding

Customer experience – peat and wood-fibre blend

A customer reported that the peat and wood-fibre blend arrived too wet and did not dry sufficiently before winter in unheated loose housing, so it froze. They dried the next batch during summer in small quantities on a tarpaulin. They used the material over a peat layer and otherwise liked the material. This is one customer's experience with a peat and wood-fibre blend, not a test of pure wood fibre or a universal installation recommendation.

Important before use

PRE-ORDER PRODUCT – MOIST MATERIAL. The supplier states a moisture content above 40%; wet patches may occur. Use cautiously as a filler together with dry bedding suitable for the animal, never on its own as the sole bedding. This product is not a substitute for highly absorbent dry bedding.

Composition

Wood fibre without peat. This is not wood shavings.

Instructions for use

  1. Open the package and check the condition of all material being used, including wet patches. Do not use mouldy material or material with an unusual smell.
  2. Mix with suitable dry bedding, such as wood shavings, hemp or flax bedding. Adjust the amount to the actual moisture level; there is no universal mixing ratio. The resting surface must remain dry and soft.
  3. Do not place excessively wet material directly under animals. If necessary, dry it in small quantities in a thin layer on a clean surface, protected from rain with good airflow. Do not add water.
  4. Check the bed daily. Remove manure and wet patches and add dry bedding. Adding dry material does not replace removing spoiled or waterlogged material.

Storage and winter use

Store packs off the ground and protected from rain and meltwater. Wet material may freeze, particularly in unheated housing. Thaw frozen material and check its condition before use. Keep away from ignition sources. Drying and handling can generate wood dust; provide ventilation and avoid breathing dust.
